The Benchmarks

Five Things the Reviews Show

Benchmark #1

Fulfillment cost is the lowest-rated part of 3PL service

4.80

Average fulfillment cost rating, vs 4.86 for order accuracy

Reviewers rate five dimensions of their 3PL relationship, and on the corpus-wide average the other four all outscore fulfillment cost. The spread is small in absolute terms. In the two deepest segments, startup (1-10 employees) and small business (11-50 employees), which hold 348 of the 393 reviews between them, fulfillment cost is the lowest-rated dimension in each.

Key Takeaway

3PLs deliver on operations first. If you are comparing providers, reviews say the differences you will feel are likelier to be about pricing fit than about whether orders ship accurately and on time.

Benchmark #2

Most reviews are a perfect score

84.7%

Of all reviews are a perfect 5.0

Brands rarely rate a 3PL as merely fine. 333 of 393 reviews score a perfect 5.0, while only 47 land anywhere between 3.0 and 4.9, and 13 reviews (3.3%) rate below 3.0.

  • Rated 3.0-4.413 reviews (3.3%)

Key Takeaway

A middling average hides more than it tells in this market. When you evaluate a provider, weigh the share of perfect scores against the share of very low ones, and read the written reviews for why each side landed where it did.

Benchmark #3

The pain point moves with company size

4.65

Average from large enterprise (201+ employees) reviewers (n=13), vs 4.88 from startups

Startups give the highest share of five-star ratings (88.8%) and large enterprises the lowest (69.2%), though the line is not straight: the highest-averaging band is medium enterprise (51-200 employees) at 4.89. At the two ends of the size range, startup reviewers rate fulfillment cost lowest, while large enterprise reviewers rate customer service lowest (4.54) and fulfillment cost highest. Read plainly: small brands get the service and feel the price, big brands negotiate the price and feel the service. The large enterprise segment is 13 reviews, so treat its figures as directional.

Key Takeaway

If you are a growing brand, the benchmark to watch is not the average rating, it is which dimension slips as accounts your size get served. Ask a prospective 3PL how they staff support for accounts at your order volume, not just what they charge.

Benchmark #4

Satisfaction dips in the scaling transition

4.76

Average at 10,000-50,000 orders, vs 4.91 and 4.91 in the bands on either side

Brands shipping 1,000-10,000 orders a year average 4.91 overall and brands at 50,000-100,000 orders average 4.91; the band between them dips to 4.76. The highest-averaging band of all is 100,000-500,000 orders (4.96, n=15). At the very top of the curve, the 10 reviews from brands shipping 500,000+ orders average 4.42, the lowest of any band; both top bands are small samples, so treat those as a direction rather than a precise figure.

Key Takeaway

Match the provider to the volume band you are entering, not the one you are leaving. The reviews suggest the riskiest moments are the scaling transition through the tens of thousands of orders, and the very top of the curve, where requirements stop looking like standard fulfillment.

Benchmark #5

Every charted product niche averages 4.78 or better

4.94

Toys & Games (n=16), the highest-rated charted niche

Across the 8 product categories with at least 15 reviews (308 of 393 reviews), satisfaction is high and tightly grouped: from 4.78 (Sporting Goods) to 4.94 (Toys & Games). No charted category shows a satisfaction problem. Reviews outside these categories (85 of 393) sit in smaller niches or report no category, and are not charted.

Key Takeaway

Category experience matters more than category averages. Instead of asking which niche scores highest, shortlist providers that already serve brands in yours; the directory's specialty pages exist for exactly that cut.

Methodology

Where This Data Comes From

The corpus

393published reviews submitted through Fulfill.com's review form, March 2025 to August 2026, covering 132 3PL providers. 368 carry a submission date; the window is drawn from those.

The ratings

Each review rates overall satisfaction plus five dimensions on a 1 to 5 scale: order accuracy, fulfillment speed, customer service, scalability and flexibility, and fulfillment cost. Every review also reports company size and annual order volume; 368 of 393 report a product niche.

The segments

A small number of reviews were submitted through translated forms; their segment values are folded into the matching English buckets. Three overlapping food and beverage labels are combined into one category for charting. Niche charts include categories with 15+ reviews; segment sizes are shown as n= throughout.

  • Ratings measure satisfaction, not price. A high fulfillment cost score means the reviewer felt the pricing was fair for the service, not that the provider is cheap; this report contains no dollar rate data.
  • Reviews skew toward active relationships: 95% of reviewers were current customers when they reviewed. Brands that left a provider are underrepresented, which likely flatters every average on this page by some amount.
  • Small segments are reported with their n and should be read as directional. The corpus keeps growing through the review form, and this page is refreshed from it as a dated snapshot; figures above are as of 2026-08-16.
