Post-Holiday Rebound Pushes January Imports Higher
U.S. container import volumes are expected to climb to approximately 2.1 million TEUs in January 2026, representing a 6.6% increase compared to December 2025, according to recent forecasts.
The projected uptick follows the typical post-holiday pattern where import activity rebounds after the December slowdown. For 3PL operators and fulfillment centers, this means preparing for increased receiving activity and inventory flows as retailers and brands restock following the holiday selling season.
The 2.1 million TEU figure reflects steady demand in the opening month of the year, though the percentage gain is relatively modest compared to typical seasonal swings. The increase suggests normalizing trade patterns as the industry moves past the compressed holiday shipping window.
