Ryder Doubles Down on Mobile Maintenance Strategy
Ryder System is building out its mobile maintenance empire with the acquisition of Truck Service Depot, an Atlanta-based operation that services commercial trucks and trailers across Georgia. The move adds more than 20 technicians and two physical facilities to Ryder's "Torque by Ryder" retail maintenance network.
This marks Ryder's second strategic maintenance acquisition in as many years. The Miami-based transportation and supply chain provider bought Florida's Pit Stop Fleet Service in 2024, signaling a clear bet on the mobile maintenance model as fleets increasingly demand on-site service capabilities.
With the Truck Service Depot deal, Torque by Ryder now operates across 27 states, servicing everything from commercial trucks and trailers to delivery vans, refrigerated vehicles, construction equipment, passenger buses, forklifts, and emergency response vehicles. The acquisition brings a 10-bay drive-through maintenance facility in Atlanta and a service center in Savannah into Ryder's network.
Why This Matters for Fleet Operations
The expansion reflects a broader shift in how fleet maintenance gets delivered. Mobile maintenance reduces downtime by bringing the shop to the vehicle rather than taking trucks out of service for facility visits. For 3PLs managing diverse fleets, having access to a wider maintenance network means faster repairs and better asset utilization.
Ryder plans to integrate Truck Service Depot's employees, assets, and operations throughout 2026, aiming to maintain uninterrupted service for existing customers during the transition. While financial terms weren't disclosed, the deal continues Ryder's pattern of buying regional maintenance players to scale its national footprint quickly.
