Echo Global Acquires ITS Logistics in $5.4B Platform Play
Chicago freight broker Echo Global Logistics is buying ITS Logistics, a Reno-based 3PL, in a deal that creates a $5.4 billion revenue platform combining traditional brokerage scale with specialized asset-light services.
The acquisition brings together Echo's truckload brokerage operations and AI-driven technology with ITS's niche capabilities in drop trailer programs, dedicated capacity, and intermodal solutions. Financial terms weren't disclosed, though ITS will continue operating under its current leadership team led by CEO Scott Pruneau.
Founded in 1999, ITS Logistics built its reputation around DropFleet, its drop trailer and trailer pool program that gives shippers flexible capacity without the overhead of owned equipment. The company also operates in drayage, freight security, omnichannel fulfillment, and sustainability-focused transportation—capabilities that complement Echo's managed transportation and cross-border services.
Technology Meets Specialized Capacity
Echo's platform uses automation, machine learning, and AI for pricing, capacity sourcing, and shipment execution—technology that could amplify ITS's specialized services. The combination gives customers access to both broad multimodal options and targeted solutions like dedicated lanes and trailer pools through a single provider.
"Echo's truckload brokerage scale, managed transportation platform, strong cross-border capabilities, and broad multimodal offering — combined with its technology platform and AI-driven innovation — will enable us to elevate our service offerings," Pruneau said in a statement. He noted the combined entity will help customers "navigate the increasing complexity of today's supply chain."
For 3PLs watching consolidation trends, this deal highlights how traditional brokers are buying specialized capabilities rather than just adding volume. The focus on maintaining ITS's leadership suggests Echo values the operational expertise as much as the revenue.
